Who is Homebrace?
HomeBrace is a German manufacturer specialising in alternative control systems for powered wheelchairs and assistive technology. Their range helps people with severe physical disabilities regain independence using eye-control driving (MyEcc and MyEcc Pupil Prop). With award-winning design behind their products, HomeBrace focuses on one goal: giving people back control over their own movement, even when standard controls are no longer an option.
What is EyeGaze?
Eye gaze is a technology that tracks exactly where a person is looking by following the movement of their eyes, and turns that into a command. It allows someone who can't use their hands or voice reliably to operate computers, communication devices and — with systems like MyEcc — a powered wheelchair, simply by looking. It's precise, intuitive and requires no physical effort beyond moving the eyes, which makes it especially valuable for people living with conditions such as motor neurone disease (ALS), muscular dystrophy or tetraplegia.
How does MyEcc Work?
MyEcc translates eye movement directly into wheelchair commands: look in the direction you want to travel and the chair follows, and close your eyes to stop immediately. The system reads the user's eye position and feeds those commands through to the wheelchair's own control platform, so the same look-to-drive principle can also adjust the seating position or operate an assistive robotic arm. Depending on the version, the eyes are tracked either through the user's eye-gaze communication device or through HomeBrace's own sensor headset — the latter even working outdoors and in bright sunlight.
